Author's Comments

Linda and I wish those of you in the United States a great July 4th Holiday. We are planning to visit some friends at their beach home on the Texas coast. We will take the kayaks and get in some paddling time.

To our Canadian friends, Happy Canada Day on July 1.

We wish all of you, everywhere, a safe week.

Q & A, Suggestions and Comments

Art Bedard set me another great email that I would normally publish here, but it is too long and has tricky HTML in it that is best published on the Boomer eZine website. Read it at

http://www.boomer-ezine.com/V2I12_062907.htm#QA

If you have anything for this section or you have a suggestion for a topic for an article, please send us an email with your suggestions or your input. With your help, we can improve the Boomer Video eZine.

SBI Independence Day Sale

Well, for those of you who procrastinated and did not jump on my offer, I cannot take any more requests to split the sale.

For those of you signed up and are now starting your brainstorming and market research for your new SBI sites, a sincere “Thank You”.

I admire people who recognize an opportunity and seize it.

For additional details about the sale

Definition of Site Build It

I have found that many people do not “get it” about Site Build It. I decided to attempt to write a definition of SBI. This led to an article that I published with my definition.

Read the article at

http://www.boomer-ezine.com/V2I12_062907.htm#Definition

Back to eBay

We have not been active on eBay for a while and we decided to double back to it for various reasons.

Linda is starting to sort out our house in anticipation of moving in less than two years. She is having fun putting things in a box and telling me to list them on eBay. She has done a great job taking pictures with the digital camera so all I have to do is list them.

Well, that is not all I have to do. I took the box to work where we have a very accurate scale. I weighed each item along with the packing material so I would know exactly how much the package will weigh for shipping.

I plan to list an item this weekend after we finish the ezine.

New Seller Account on eBay

We are concentrating more on being an SBI affiliate all the time since we feel that it is The Best Web Host for most people. I decided to create an account on eBay as SBI-Guru. I checked and it was available so that is the name of my new SBI selling account.

Read about the reasons for establishing this new seller account and registering new domain names for sbi-guru.com.

http://www.boomer-ezine.com/V2I12_062907.htm#SellerAccount

Take a Peek inside the SBI forums

If this looks familiar, this article is generated from the email in the Q&A section.

Art said the word “peek” is a powerful word and he is right. It has a certain forbidden quality to it. Something we can do, but we shouldn’t.

Anyway, I have written before that probably the most powerful tool on SBI and the reason that SBI owners are so successful is the forum in which all SBI’ers help each other or go seeking help.

Let’s discuss how you can read (not write to) the forums …

http://www.boomer-ezine.com/V2I12_062907.htm#Peek

You will see a group of very dedicated, nice people helping each other succeed.

Go ahead - Take the forbidden “PEEK”.

That wraps up our issue for this week. Until next week, stay tuned.

Author's Comments

This week has been very busy at work. Lots going on. I am glad it is the weekend.

It was an active week with the Internet business too. Tim Knox’s book launch, finishing up the final revision of “How to Choose The Best Web Host for YOUR Website”, working on the websites, etc.

Q & A, Suggestions and Comments

I had an interesting email exchange with Art Bedard. He wrote that he had been trying to identify SBI as a scam, but he could not. I never thought that anyone would consider SBI a scam, but his email opened my eyes that everything on the Net is under suspicion of being a scam.

With his permission, here is our exchange.

News Flash - Tim Knox is a best selling author

I sent you an email this morning about the launch of Tim’s new book. The launch has been very successful.

Tim is now the #1 in the "Business & Investing" category which is a major book category on Amazon.

This is the link to the Amazon page that lists the top selling books.

Another Discovery About SBI

SBI never ceases to amaze me. It has so much in it that I continue to discover more and more.

More about my discovery at

http://www.boomer-ezine.com/V2I11_062207.htm#DISCOVERY

SBI Summer Sale

Ken Evoy, inventor of Site Build It, is a master promoter. He holds sales a few times each year and right now he is holding a Summer Sale. He never discounts the price of SBI on a single sale, but he sells packages of SBI sites for an attractive price.

He started the Summer Sale as the “Summer Sandals Sale”. It was so popular that he has extended it to July 6 and calls it “Independence Day Sale”. We Americans will say that July 6 is not Independence Day. Why did Ken name it that? It is SBI Independence Day! Our friends north of the border celebrate Canadian Independence Day on July 1, in the U.S. we celebrate July 4, and world wide, we will celebrate July 6 as SBI Independence Day.

Why have an SBI Independence Day? To celebrate independence from what ever has held us back in moving forward in our quest for an online business.

The terms of the sale are buy one SBI at $299 USD and get the second one for an additional $100 USD. $399 for two sites = $199.50 each.

Google Alerts – Continued

Last week, we wrote an article about Google Alerts.

I decided to try an experiment to see how quickly Google would notify me of the use of “retirement jobs” in an alert.

You will be amazed as I was how quickly Google alerted me about this experiment.

Add Bookmark and RSS Feed Buttons to your Website

Part of Web 2.0 is social bookmarking. There are tools that make this easy for your reader to do. Let’s face it, we all like to do it the easy way. If you put tools that make it easy for your reader to bookmark your page, you will get more bookmarks. More bookmarks mean more traffic.

John has been working hard to finish his ebook and a download for a draft copy is included in this ezine. John needs your help with it.

Q & A, Suggestions and Comments

I can always count on Ana to ask really good questions.

Forgive me if I mentioned this before, as the mail I'm responding to is from May. You mentioned a man in Pakistan who for a modest fee will submit your articles to multiple sites, so you get many more links back to your own site.

That sounds like a great deal, but wouldn't it result
in lots of duplicate content? Your articles aren't
supposed to go to multiple sites, or you could get in
trouble.

Right?

My response to Ana

Another great question! I really do not know the correct answer since I cannot look inside Google or Yahoo.

I interpret the duplicate content as pages on a website, not articles on article sites. Duplicate websites are called "mirror" sites and they are a No No.

I have not had a problem with retirement-jobs-online.com being hurt by multiple articles on over 100 sites. It is currently number 6 for the keyword "retirement jobs". The sites above it are great sites and it will be hard to move up (but I am still trying).

The articles are where I build my back links to my own websites. They also bring traffic to the website.

When I study the traffic stats for RJO, I find that there are many referrals during the month from websites with which I am totally unfamiliar. When I follow the link to the referring site, I find that the webmaster took one of my articles and posted it on his/her site. The resource box (bio) has links back to my websites.

I will run the risk of posting multiple copies of articles on many sites for the back links and the traffic.

How to Choose the Best Web Host for Your Website

I (John) am just finishing my most recent ebook, “How to Choose the Best Web Host for YOUR Website”. This is a “how to” book and the title is self explanatory.

The book contains valuable information about selecting web hosts. The only hosts that are reviewed in it are the web hosts that I currently use for our websites so I write from hands on experience. (Site Build It, Hostexcellence.com, Hostmonster.com, and GoDaddy).

We feel that you, our readers, are our best critics. I am asking you to help me proof the book and give me your critical opinion.

I will sell this book when it is complete so you get it free as your compensation for your work. Please write your quick review or leave comments using the feedback link below to leave me your feedback.

To read the book and for more information click the following link

Using Google Alerts

Set up a Google Alert and Google will automatically email you information about specific keywords that you have put on alert. It’s a great tool for monitoring activity in topics or keywords.

As you are probably aware, Linda and I have two major keyword based websites,
www.retirement-jobs-online.com and www.the-best-web-host.com. We are always watching for interesting activity in the keywords that are associated with these two sites.

It is a lot easier to have Google send us emails each day telling us about activity for these keywords than to have to search and try to determine what has changed since the previous day. It is just about impossible to do so.

For more information about helpful Google Alerts

Why Older Workers are Looking for Retirement Jobs

Speaking of Google Alerts; I received an email for Google Alerts for the keyword “retirement jobs” and when I checked, I found this interesting article by Anna Banks. I emailed Anna for permission to reprint the article and she graciously consented.

Review of Tim’s Book

I have a confession. I received the “My Mama” book, but I have not had time to review it.

Next Friday, June 22, is Tim’s official launch of the book. Don’t forget to go to his website.

I will have a review in the eZine next week along with the launch information.

But here is the big news! Tim has asked all his current affiliates to sign up new affiliates. This is your chance to become a Tim Knox affiliate and sell Tim’s products.

If you are not already an affiliate, you are losing money. All you do is become an affiliate, recommend QUALITY products. Don’t sell junk.

When your reader clicks your link and buys the product you recommend, you either get a check in the mail, or a direct deposit appears in you PayPal account or your bank account.

Accept Tim’s invitation and join his affiliate group by clicking this link

This week has been busy. I flew to San Francisco, CA USA Tuesday morning and returned Thursday evening. This was on Kodiak business. The good news is the trip was very successful.

San Francisco is my favorite city. It is not too large. It has its own unique charm and character. My regret is that I did not have time to enjoy it. I did make it a point to take time and ride the cable car which is a treat in itself.

Now, back to work.

Q & A, Suggestions and Comments

Ana Young responded to my comment about article marketing from last week’s issue.

"... know that you have grown tired of our writing
articles about article marketing. However, we feel
that this is one of the best ways to attract traffic
to your website."

Let me assure you, John, that I for one am NOT tired
of articles on this subject! I don't know how your
other subscribers feel, but I quoted you directly here
to show you that I want to keep on reading your
articles on this.

I am glad to get this feedback, since I am convinced that publishing articles on the article sites will:

1.
Establish you as an expert in your field.
2. Create traffic to your website

Ana, thanks for the feedback.

“Everything I Know About Business I Learned From My Mama, A Downhome Approach To Business & Personal Success.”

Google has announced that it will change the way its search works. Here is the press release of the announcement.

Keywords Analyzer Video

Chris Lee developed the enormously successful software package Keywords Analyzer. In my opinion, this package ranks second to the SBI Brainstorm It package for researching keywords and competition for keywords.

He produced a video that shows how Keywords Analyzer works. The video shows what to consider when building a web page in order to optimize it for the search engines. View the video not from a point of buying Keywords Analyzer, but from the knowledge that you can learn from it.

Market Share of Search Engines

Google continues to dominate the search engine wars. In Q2, 2007, it has 53.38% of the US and 9.28% of the UK searches, Yahoo has 9.87%, and MSN 4.19%.

Author's Comments

I know that you have grown tired of our writing articles about article marketing. However, we feel that this is one of the best ways to attract traffic to your website.

John has published 59 articles to date. This has paid off. John received an email this week from a staff editor of Beyond.com inviting him to become a guest author.

Since John did not ask permission to reprint the email, we will paraphrase it for you. In the email the editor said that she had read some of John’s works on ezinearticles.com and felt that his articles would be a great addition to the Beyond.com articles and blog.

The reason for this discussion is to urge you to write and publish articles. John published his first article on ezinearticles.com on May 2, 2006. Since then he has published an average of about one article per week. You can do the same if you set a schedule and stick to it. The first article is the most difficult, so write it now.

The first article posted on Beyond.com is one about becoming a consultant when you retire. It is a variation of an article posted on Ezine Articles.

Q & A, Suggestions and Comments

We received an email from a reader who was very upset that we were pushing the Google Cash Detective. Her position was that it was not right to use GC Detective and take over a person’s spot.

I am torn on this issue, but I still feel that it is competition on the Internet.

Creating eBook Covers - Continued

Looking for Hosting in All the Wrong Places

This is an article I wrote for Ezine Articles. I have observed that advertising for web hosting is all oriented to the technical side of web hosting. I guess it is easy to measure gigabytes of storage and bandwidth. What really needs to be measured is the success of the users of the web host.

Read the article at

http://www.boomer-ezine.com/V2I8_060107.htm#LHWP

StatCounter Update

We wrote about Statcounter in Volume 1 Issue 40 (
http://www.boomer-ezine.com/V1I40_011207.htm). The article includes a video to show you how StatCounter works.

StatCounter was free for log files under 101 records. There was a charge for a log file larger than 100. This week I receive an email that StatCounter has increased its free log space to 500 records. If you use StatCounter, you probably received the same email.

If you do not use StatCounter, I encourage you to use it. I have installed the StatCounter script on every web page that I create. Every couple of days, I log on to StatCounter and check the traffic stats for our websites. It is revealing. I use it to optimize the pages and increase conversions.

You can check out Statcounter at

That wraps up our issue for this week. Until next week, stay tuned.
